Coexistence: A Harmonious Blend of Nature and Architecture

A Residential House Designed by Frankie Yu

The design of the architecture takes advantage of its proximity to the water, creating a dialogue with the ripples, sky lights, and lush vegetation. This unique design aims to merge the green environment, sunshine, and air as design elements, fostering a living space conducive to inner peace.

The residential house known as Coexistence, designed by Frankie Yu, is a testament to the harmonious relationship between nature and architecture. Situated near the water, the design embraces the surrounding elements, creating a serene and tranquil living space. The architecture itself is an interpretation of abstract and great design concepts, materialized through the interplay of water ripples, dancing lights, and shadows.

What sets Coexistence apart from other residential designs is its pursuit of a dynamic and true order, characterized by harmony, coexistence, and balance with nature. The design seamlessly integrates the green environment, natural light, and fresh air, transforming them into essential design elements. This intentional blending of nature and architecture creates a living space that promotes inner peace and tranquility.

The realization of Coexistence is a testament to the designer's meticulous attention to detail. The use of granite tiles, LED light strips, grey mirrors, black paint coated steel plates, wood veneer boards, tempered grey glass, teak dining table tops, and carefully selected plants all contribute to the overall aesthetic and functionality of the design.

Throughout the design, equal emphasis is placed on lights, form, and style. By eliminating and fusing border lines and embracing nature, Coexistence offers a calm and detached living experience. The humble attitude of coexistence with nature is embedded in every aspect of the design, allowing residents to appreciate the greatness of nature in silence.

The project, which started in December 2012 and was completed in October 2014, is located in New Taipei City. The design process was rooted in a deep understanding of the relationship between humans and space. The owner's love for travel and appreciation of modern minimalism served as the inspiration for the design. Through the concept of subtraction, unnecessary elaborations and details were removed, allowing space to be defined by the sky and mountains, with natural light flooding the living area.

One of the notable challenges overcome during the design process was the departure from traditional space division. Instead of using walls, the design incorporates rounded routes to blend different zones seamlessly. Various floorboard materials and ceiling heights differentiate the spaces, while hidden details create an extensive perspective from area to area.

Coexistence is a testament to the power of design in creating a harmonious relationship between humans and nature. Through a thoughtful and deliberate approach, elements of sunshine, air, and water have been transformed into an architectural masterpiece. Living in Coexistence is an experience that reflects a deep respect and appreciation for the order of nature, allowing residents to coexist with the natural world.

Coexistence has been recognized for its outstanding design and creativity, receiving the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2016. This prestigious award is bestowed upon designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, contributing to improvements in quality of life and making the world a better place.
